Prompt
Create a website and redesign the brand for PerZeption, a vision diagnostics startup.
PerZeption Inc, a start-up based in Northeastern University’s psychology department, aims to provide rapid, self-administrable, and AI-guided vision diagnostics. With computer-based exams, their mission is “to save sight by breaking down access barriers and by providing more and better information about a person’s visual perception“.
My team was tasked with creating a high-fidelity coded prototype for their website along with an original brand, which would be used to present PerZeption to potential investors and customers.

Research
A major part of our user research was natural observation of beta testing sessions of PerZeption’s Find exam at Northeastern’s psychology lab.
During each session, our lead user experience researcher, Charles, assessed how participants responded to and navigated the exam’s current MatLab based UI and overall structure. While the studies were limited to college students, the research allowed us to see the test in action.
With these observations in mind, as well as Charles’ personal experience taking the complete 2-3 hour test, we combined our major takeaways into an empathy map.

User Surveys
In addition to natural observation, we discovered more about the Find exam through constructing a post-test survey for participants. After three iterations with the help of PerZeption’s co-founder, Jan, the final Qualtrics survey asks users which Find tests they took, then presenting applicable questions.
The survey includes qualitative and quantative questions. For each individual test, the participant fills out the SUS usability scale to help us understand their experience. Our findings confirmed the users’ interest in gamification, clearer directions, and progress indicators.
In the future, this survey will be rolled out to a larger audience of study participants throughout the Boston area, including hospitals and doctors offices, to provide a more complete picture of our users.
